Learn how to respond to workplace emergencies as part of a warden team,  including assisting with evacuations and implementing emergency procedures.

Course Overview

This nationally recognised course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to operate as part of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO) and assist with workplace emergency response activities.

It covers emergency preparedness, responding to alarms and emergency situations, assisting with evacuations, communicating with occupants and emergency personnel, and supporting post-emergency activities in line with facility emergency procedures.

Course Details

Participants in this course will learn how to effectively:

  • Apply Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements
  • Assist occupants who may require assistance
  • Assist with post-emergency response activities
  • Comply with legislation, industry standards, codes of practice and regulations
  • Contribute to facility emergency planning
  • Give clear directions to occupants and visitors
  • Implement safe work practices
  • Initiate and control initial emergency response
  • Respond to emergency signals and warnings
  • Take on a leadership role within emergency control organisation and/or a deputy role for other emergency control organisation positions
  • Undertake pre-emergency planning
  • Use communications systems
  • Wear required emergency control organisation identification

On successful completion of this course, participants will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment, recognising their skills and competency as a fire & emergency Warden.

This course awards the following nationally accredited unit:

  • PUAFER005 – Operate as part of an emergency control organisation

Entry Requirements

An individual undertaking this course will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • Capability to complete the practical demonstrations for the course, including:
    • Contribute to facility emergency planning
    • Undertake pre-emergency planning
    • Take on a leadership role/ deputy within the emergency control organisation
    • Wear required emergency control organisation identification
    • Complete facility emergency documentation
