This nationally recognised course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to assess and respond to small workplace fire emergencies using fire extinguishers and fire blankets.
The training combines essential theory with hands-on practical activities, including live fire extinguisher use, to ensure participants can respond confidently and effectively in real workplace scenarios.

Course Details
Participants in this course will learn how to effectively
- Apply Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements
- Communicate with occupants, emergency personnel and stakeholders
- Comply with facility policies and procedures
- Confine emergencies safely
- Give and follow instructions
- Identify and act to avoid or control any associated hazards
- Identify and assess an emergency
- Implement facility emergency response procedures
- Prepare for emergency situations
- Report facility emergency response
- Restow initial response equipment
- Use initial response equipment
- Utilise risk management processes
On successful completion of this course, participants will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment, recognising their skills and competency in using fire extinguishers and responding to small workplace fires.
This course awards the following nationally accredited unit:
- PUAFER008 – Confine small emergencies in a facility
Entry Requirements
Participants must have the physical capacity to complete all practical assessments, including being able to safely carry and operate a 9kg fire extinguisher
- Pre-course study: Students may be required to undertake online pre-course work prior to attending the face to face session depending on the course delivery mode
- Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online/pre-course studies.
